If the cold winter weather has you packing your bags for a warm holiday getaway, you'll want to make sure you're prepared to take care of your locks while you're on holiday. Below, we're sharing the ultimate holiday in the sun haircare packing guide!
Shampoo & Conditioner
Let's face it, most hotels don't offer shampoo and conditioner options that measure up to the ones we reach for at home. Head out to your local drugstore and purchase a few travel-sized containers, so that you can transport your own shampoo and conditioner in your carry-on. Since washing with harsh cleansers can strip your hair of its natural oils (and of any color you got before heading out for vacation!), you'll want to make sure the shampoo you're using is a professional quality one. Same goes for conditioners, you want an option that will truly hydrate your hair, not simply leave it weighed down.
Those same travel-sized containers are great for bringing along a small amount of your weekly hair mask. (Don't already use a weekly hair mask? Here we explain why it's time to start!) Since this time of year, many warm weather locations feature high levels of humidity, you'll want to be well-armed with a conditioning mask that will help to keep your hair gorgeous and frizz-free. What's more, if you're planning to take a dip in the pool or the ocean, your hair mask can help to provide a shield between your locks and the drying and color-stripping effects of chlorinated and/or salt water.
One of the best parts about a warm weather vacation is being able to let your hair dry naturally. Embrace your hair's natural texture by styling it while you sleep. At night wash and condition your hair as normal. Blot dry-rubbing can cause frizz and breakage-and distribute a small amount of hair oil throughout your damp strands. Braid your locks or twist them into a bun before bed and in the morning you'll have gorgeous heat-free waves worthy of a day spent poolside.
Since styling your hair each day can feel like anything but a vacation, bring along your favorite dry shampoo to help stretch time between shampoos. Check out our expert guide for using dry shampoo the right way here!
Bobby Pins, Hair Ties, and Cute Accessories
Whether you want to style your hair in a braid, bun, or high ponytail or if you want to add a little sparkle for a special occasion at night, you'll need certain accessories. Having bobby pins, hair ties, and cute accessories like barrettes and headbands with you is necessary for any occasion. Not only will you be prepared for any spur of the moment plans, you'll also be able to switch up your style in a pinch!
