While Fashion Week gives us a glimpse into the future when it comes to the next season's hottest styles, when it comes to hair those runways show us what's cool in the here and now. We kept a close eye on all of the runways this season and we're sharing what we believe will be 2017's most popular hairstyles below!
Lady Godiva-Like Lengths
When expert hairdresser and L'Oréal Professionnel Artist Jo Blackwell shared what she predicted would be the hottest haircolor trends this year, she also gave us a hint that 2017 would be the year of extremes when it came to length. Blackwell noted that long Lady Godiva-like locks would be incredibly popular this year and this season's runway shows backed that theory up. Worn with a sleek middle part and silky straight, this style looks amazing on nearly everyone. To ensure it stays shiny and looks super healthy reach for hair oils which can help to nourish parched strands.
Last year we saw more and more people embrace their natural hair texture and this year that trend continues to reign supreme. Instead of spending time fighting your natural curls with an onslaught of damaging hot tools and blow-dryers, try encouraging them with a hydrating haircare routine and products like Tecni.Art Soft Curls Mousse or Tecni.Art Dual Stylers Bouncy & Tender Gel. If you can't air-dry your locks be sure to use a diffuser attachment on your blow-dryer and use the tool on low heat to avoid drying your hair out.
Who says every hair has to be in place to look its best? The runways showed us that when locks are intentionally undone and have that sought-after next-day texture they can actually look even better than when they are polished and perfect. To style your hair like the models in the Nicole Miller runway show you'll want to start with next-day hair or use a texturizing spray to achieve that slightly gritty texture. Use a 1-inch curling wand and wrap random sections of hair around the barrel, alternating between wrapping away from and toward the face with each section. Before the curls have cooled completely separate them with your fingers to get those elongated waves. Finally, add a few tiny braids under one ear-90s style-for an unexpected pop of texture.
A nod to Blackwell's prediction of 2017 being the year of extremes, the pixie cut is poised to make a major comeback. The short haired answer to those Lady Godiva lengths, pixie cuts are fun and flirty with a little edge-especially when worn with a chic ashy blonde. To style this look, hairdresser and L'Oréal Professionnel Artist Drew Schaefering says to smooth your hair flat to the head by lightly distributing a molding gelee and then blow drying. "Use a comb to dry hair," he says. "The teeth will keep it flat and offer more control than a brush will, giving it a cleaner and neater finish." As a final touch, add a tiny bit of styling wax for shine and definition.
The saying everything old is new again is certainly true when it comes to trends in hair. Accessories were all the rage a decade ago-remember butterfly clips?!-and this season's runway shows proved that they are back and better than ever. We're currently loving crowns-no, they're not just fun filters to rock on your favorite app! These chic accessories add a subtle shimmer to your style and look amazing on hair that's worn down with romantic waves and a sleek middle part.
