Messy XXL Volume: A Mean Mane of Curls

Awaken your inner lioness.

Awaken your inner lioness with a super-sized mane with ultra-high-volume. This look is perfect when you just want to feel a little fierce.

Get the Look

Our stylists say this big-statement style is best for gals with medium to thick hair with a bit of natural texture. "The more hair you have, the bigger you can make it," says L'Oréal Professionnel celebrity stylist Jennifer MacDougall.

Start with a texturizer throughout to prime your hair for extra volume-this works best when hair is dry. Starting underneath, wrap 1-inch sections of hair tightly in sections with a hot .5- or 1-inch curling wand, using a clip to pin up the rest. Keep plenty of hairspray on hand and tease as necessary as you go, building volume from the bottom up. When the entire head is tightly curled and cooled, piece it out with your fingers then set with a finishing spray. Want even more volume? Flip your hair over and spray with a light-hold hairspray before separating each of the curls

Pro Tip

While it is totally possible to achieve XXL volume at home, tightly wrapping it section by section, your best bet is to leave it to the pros. A stylist will know the best way to create excessive volume without holding back or damaging delicate hair.
