One of the hottest color trends of the moment is Rose Gold. This dusty pink continues to be the ultimate upgrade for blondes...but what about dark-haired beauties? Enter: Chocolate Mauve. With its blend of rose and violet, chocolate mauve is a brunette's ticket to the trend of the moment. To learn more about this hot hue we turned to an expert hairdresser and L'Oréal Professionnel Artist Jennifer Luszczak.
A Versatile Hue
"This uber-popular trend is versatile, office-friendly, and completely customizable to fit most clients," Luszczak explains. What makes this trendy shade so adaptable is its various blended combinations of pink and red-violet tones, which she says are applied in several combinations to create a darker, higher saturated look or a lighter, dustier pastel creation. "Thanks to L'Oréal Professionnel's pre-blended shades this is fun trend is easily achieved," she shares.
Curious if chocolate mauve is for you? Luszczak says that the look works best on brunettes with lighter highlights. "The more contrast," she explains, "the more noticeable the trend."
Get the Look
To achieve this of-the-moment shade, you'll need to first start off with a darker base. "If a client doesn't already have brunette hair, a chocolatey base color will first be applied," Luszczak says. Following that base shade, your hairdresser will then strategically apply highlights which will be lightening to your desired level. Finally, a mauve-the blend of pink with red-violet-toned gloss is applied over the highlights!
Pastel shades are known to fade faster than their more traditional counterparts. In order to maintain the level of mauve you desire you'll want to visit the salon every four to six weeks for a gloss. The frequency of visits truly depends on your shampoo regimen, according to Luszczak. "Utilizing a professional color-safe shampoo, such as Vitamino Color A-OX, is key in optimizing and maintaining this look."
