While the shape has subtly changed over the years, the bob is a classic hairstyle that will never go out of style.

The floaty yet defined shape of a sleek, smooth bob delicately highlights and flatters both the jaw and the neckline, making it an ultra-flirty, feminine look. This style is great for those with fine hair because it's blunt on the ends which creates volume, says L'Oréal Professionnel celebrity stylist Jennifer MacDougall. "This look is simplistic," she says. "It's for someone who wants to walk into a room with a clean, fashionable haircut, but also someone who's willing to visit the salon often to keep it looking that way." MacDougall says a trim every four to six weeks is imperative for cuts of this length, but on the other hand it doesn't take much to style it at home.
Provided your hair is pretty straight, all it takes is a simple blowout and a bit of smoothing serum to achieve this look says MacDougall. "If it has a little wave you might want to flat iron it or get a professional blowout." Invest in a small 1-inch barrel round brush for a sleek blowout with a subtle lift.
If your hair's falling flat even after a good blowout, try a bit of volumizing spray-just at the roots-before blow drying. Then take a flat iron to smooth only the ends, angling them slightly towards the face. Be sure to always use a heat protectant when using hot tools to keep split ends at bay and avoid excessive damage to your delicate strands.
